Dr. Nath is now performing pediatric surgeries at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital. Located on Fannin Street in the Texas Medical Center , the hospital is in a familiar and convenient location.

The children's memorial hermann hospital's patient rooms are bright and cheery . Each room contains a private bathroom with tub and shower and a resting area for parents. Both parents can sleep in the child's room. There is a window bed and also a recliner bed. Just ask the nurse for bedding. Parents with infants can request a regular hospital bed instead of a crib and one parent can sleep with the baby. Each room has a television and one of the stations is a movie station that plays all "G" rated movies 24/7. You can also bring your own VCR from home and plug it directly into the television.
The Sunroom Playground is located on the 10 th floor and there are well-stocked playrooms filled with videos, games, books and arts & crafts on the other floors. Members of the Child Life Services team supervise the playroom between 10 am and 12 noon and 2 pm and 4 pm . Parent Lounges are found on the floors with kitchen and laundromat facilities. Internet service is available in the Volunteer Office.
Anesthesia and nursing staff have been educated on the special needs of brachial plexus injury patients. If you want extended time to talk to the anesthesiology team before surgery to plan for your child's care, there is a daily anesthesia clinic that you can make an appointment to attend. Call the hospital directly to make this appointment. You will be able to choose the type of pre-surgical medicine your child will receive (oral "sleepy juice" or IV meds). You will also be able to choose the "flavor" of the oxygen mask: banana, strawberry, cherry, or bubblegum. This will be a good time to discuss any specific medical issues (for example, pulmonary issues that your child may have).
Pain Services are available upon request. If you feel your child has pain issues that are not being managed well with standard methods, one alternative option is the use of a PCA pump (patient controlled anesthesia) which allows you to administer the pain relief medications. One full dose of pain medication is put in the IV pump and by pressing a button, a tiny amount of that dose is released into the IV line. The PCA method allows the child to be kept "on top" of the pain rather than chasing behind it. (A PCA pump is not used for infants.)
The Child Life Department can help to make your child hospital stay a bit easier. Child Life values education, preparation, and play as ways to assist your child in coping with their procedure and recovery. Through their assessments, interventions are developed to address your child and family's need for everything from information to some distraction. A Child Life Specialist [can be] is available the day of surgery to prepare your child for their surgical procedure using play and medical teaching. You may also schedule with the Child Life Department a tour of the facility before the day of surgery. Child Life staff is also available on the in-patient units to help make the recovery process easier. To make arrangements for Child Life services you can call them directly at (713)704-2066.
If you are nursing your baby, you can use the breast pumps found in the NICU (7 th floor). They can also store your milk in their freezers. You will need to bring your own breast pump attachments. Call the NICU directly to get more information about this. Also, nursing moms automatically get meal trays sent to the baby's room.
On The Day Of Surgery:
Parking is available across the street in the Hermann Professional Building Garage (see street map). Your parking ticket will be validated.
When you get to the children's memorial hermann hospital area, take either the escalator or elevator up to the 2nd floor. Follow the signs around the corner to the Children's Surgical Waiting Area. This is where you check in. They will give you a pager so that you are free to move about while your child is in surgery.
Once you get to your room , you will receive a "code". Family members and/or close friends will need this code to get updates on your child from the nursing staff (if they cannot reach you directly).
